We have some exciting updates to our desktop platform this month including the public launch of the Smartsheet API, more controls for calendar and Gantt, as well as additional options for sharing your sheets.
Introducing the Smartsheet API
We are thrilled to take collaboration to the next level with the public launch of the Smartsheet API! The API (Application Programming Interface) is a toolkit that opens the Smartsheet platform so developers can programmatically access and manage data, integrate with other systems, and build applications.
We designed the API to be simple, intuitive, and predictable. It was built to solve for key customer scenarios while incorporating commonly accepted data access, security, and other industry standards.
What are some of examples?
The possibilities with the API are endless – here are few scenarios.
- Build dashboards or reports across multiple tools. Use the API
to aggregate and managedata across multiple systems — giving
one dashboard view of all systems and tools. - Use the API to automatically trigger events in Smartsheet. Automatically create project sheets or tasks, update and share
data, or send reminders. - Integrate with maps to visualize addresses or locations. Use the API to to visualize a set of addresses on a map. You could even color code them to show important locations.
How do I access the API?
The API is free to Smartsheet customers and third party application developers. Check out details in our developer site.
