Last week, we dove deep into explaining how conditional formulas work. This week, we’ll step out of the weeds and look at the bigger picture, in particular some subtle features in Smartsheet that are related to your Internet browser selection.
As an online application, Smartsheet runs on your computer’s Internet browser. Whenever possible, we try to take advantage of the unique functionality built into the variety of options you have available to you when choosing your own browser.
Today, we’ll highlight some of the unique features added to your Smartsheet experience that come along with various browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and IE 10.
Uploading an Attachment
Attachments help you keep documents organized in the context of your project. To attach a file to a row in your sheet:
1. Click on the paperclip icon
2. Select ‘Upload’
3. Choose the file you’d like to upload, either from your desktop or from Google Drive or Box
4. Select Open
When you’re using Chrome or Firefox, this process is even easier. With these browsers, you can drag a file from your desktop or file library and drop it onto a row in your sheet. This automatically triggers the attachment upload process in Smartsheet.
Downloading an Attachment
Downloading an attachment from a row is already easy and Chrome makes it even easier with a handy shortcut.
In Chrome, when you click on the paperclip icon, the Attachments window will open and show the name of all attachments associated with that row. Click on any attached file and drag it onto your desktop. This triggers the download process from Smartsheet – now the copy of the file will be on your desktop.

Spell-Check
Looking for a little extra guidance with spelling and grammar? You’re in luck. Many browsers offer a spell-check solution that works in your Smartsheet cell and field data. Misspelled words are flagged with a red underline to highlight that there’s a question about a particular word.
Learn more about how spell-check works in Chrome, Firefox, IE 10, and Safari.
Til next week, dig in and explore!
