How often have you forgotten a password? Needed a file recovered? Accidentally clicked on that link that turned out to be spam? It happens... and the IT folks are always there to help. SysAdmins are constantly pulling off feats of incredible technical strength, yet often end up in the spotlight when a system crashes – not the best time to get on the radar.
Tomorrow is your chance to change that. It’s the 14th annual SysAdmin Day, so now is a perfect time to celebrate your IT team – while the system is humming along beautifully. Take a few moments to show them some love – it’d be a pretty scary world without ‘em!
Here are 6 quick ideas to show your appreciation:
- Send an email, a card, or even and Amazon or iTunes gift card. Easy and effective. A simple ‘thank you’ goes a LONG way!
- Give a season of the ‘IT Crowd’ or any other TV or movie-themed swag. Favorite TV shows or movies come up in conversations all the time.
- Show up with baked goods. Donuts, cookies, pies, brownies - buy them if you must, bake them if you can.
- Anything from ThinkGeek.com Gift cards are awesome, or check out this great list of ideas specifically for SysAdmins.
- Pizza! Burgers! Put together a lunch party with tasty food to show your appreciation. Want to go a little bigger? Call a local food truck and see if they can set up in your kitchen for a few hours.
- Compile a late night emergency kit. This team of superheros is up late, all the time. Put together a quick kit of things to make those late nights a little easier: coffee, mugs, candy, Silly Putty for taking a break, anything to help in the wee hours of the night.
Why stop there?
Check out these creative ways others are celebrating their IT teams – the team at PuppetLabs is running their annual Animated Gif competition in honor of SysAdmins everywhere (last year’s winners are pretty great). The folks at SysAid even produced a Soprano’s themed movie trailer for their movie about SysAdmins.
Thank you to our amazing IT team at Smartsheet: DJ, Bryan, Roger, Jim and Kramer!
How will you celebrate your SysAdmins? We’d love to know!
